Barb and Ron McMillian have brought to the Kansas City Metropolitan Area a mattress recycling operation that ends the need for roadside mattress dumping. They have already quietly succeeded in developing their mattress recycling facility in nearby Garden City, Missouri. The McMillians were motivated to get mattresses and box springs disposal out of our rapidly filling landfills.
Mattress recycling breaks the mattress and box springs into their basic component parts so that each individual part can be recycled or reused.
Several customers were sure glad to get those old mattresses out of their garage so they could get their car in. And, thery were even happier to know that their old mattresses were benefitting the environment by being recycled rather than taking up space in the local landfill.
This mattress recycling effort has been in development for over three years with many a failure along the way. The scariest was a super expensive machine special made off shore and delivered to Garden City where after only six mattresses the machine permanently and utterly failed. A local grass roots team was assembled and the project brought back on-line albeit with a need to charge a small fee to the general public for each mattress recycled.
